Headaches: Part 2

Treatment Options for HeadachesChiropractic, headaches Owen Sound

Headaches are very common among the general population and many of those that suffer from headaches seek out treatments that don’t involve taking medications. We previously discussed the different types of headaches and today we will be focusing on how chiropractors can help.

As chiropractors, we are trained to assess, diagnose, and manage headaches. Current evidence suggests that chiropractic care, including manual

therapy, can be effective in treating cervicogenic and tension type headaches. Furthermore, studies have also shown that chiropractic care can help decrease the intensity and frequency of migraines.

In addition to chiropractic care, acupuncture has been shown to be beneficial for almost all types of headaches. Many research studies have indicated that it most beneficial in treating cervicogenic and tension type headaches. A Cochrane Review completed in 2017 indicated that acupuncture is an effective in treating both episodic and chronic tension-type headaches.

Other treatment options that we often include are:

  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Rehabilitation
  • Lifestyle changes and education
  • Referral and co-management

As always, we work together with our patients to develop a treatment plan will be individualized to the patient’s needs and examination findings. If you would like to book an appointment call (519) 376-5657, or book online here.
