Do you think about your spine health?

If you ask someone if they see a chiropractor, a common response is “I have never needed to, knock on wood.” This is because they only consider chiropractors for when they experience pain. Majority of people don’t consider going to see a Chiropractor for a check up like they do the doctor, or a cleaning like the dentist. Most often, people do not go to the dentist when they realize they have a cavity, but they go twice a year for their scheduled cleaning. Preventing cavities and promoting good mouth/gum hygiene is important. Being proactive about your spine health should also be important.

The Spine

Spine, Human body, skeleton

The spine is a very important part of our body. Its health can have a big impact on how well the rest of our body functions and performs. The spine protects our spinal cord which is where the nerves come from to control every single physiological function of our body. Most importantly it supports the skull which contains the brain. The brain is the control center for the entire body, without it our body could not function.

Poor spine health can be caused by numerous lifestyle factors such as lack of exercise, poor motor control, bad posture, poor sleeping habits, stress and peripheral injuries. It is important to be proactive about your spine, like it is with your teeth and gum health. We generally brush our teeth two-three times per day. What do you do for your spine everyday? Exercise is a great way to treat your spine well. Strengthening and stretching the proper muscles will help maintain your spine in a good posture to help maintain its health.

Visiting a local chiropractor can help educate you on what you can do for your spine. This may include prescribed exercise, chiropractic adjustments or soft tissue therapy. In some cases, this could also include orthotics, as your feet are the physical foundation to hold up your spine.
